What is Office 365?

Office 365 refers to Microsoft subscription plans that include access to Office applications plus other productivity services that are enabled over the Internet (cloud service) such as Skype for Business web conferencing and Exchange Online hosted email for business, and additional online storage with OneDrive for Business. The first version came with Office 2013 and the latest version now comes with Office 2016.

What are the two primary categories of Office 365?

Office 365 for Home – Is meant for home users (not business users). Includes (the fully installed Office experience on 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets and 5 phones (including Windows, Apple®, and Android™ devices), 1 TB of cloud storage for up to 5 users on OneDrive, Skype (with 60 minutes for up to 5 users), free support and is always kept up-to-date.

Note: If you’re a business and have purchased Office 365 Home Edition licenses keep in mind your Managed Service provider cannot become a DPOR (Digital Partner of Record) to manage your Office365 licenses. This also makes it more difficult for them to assist you with Office installs and support questions.

Office 365 for Business – Is meant for businesses (not home users).

Note: Office 365 for Business licenses allow your Managed Service provider to become a DPOR (Digital Partner of Record) who can then manage your Office licenses and more easily troubleshoot problems.

So which Office 365 Plan is the best plan for my business?

It depends.

We would recommend most clients with 150 or less employees purchase Office 365 Small Business Premium licenses unless they want Exchange Email with extra features (unlimited Inbox size/email encryption security) and they want SharePoint with every possible feature then we would recommend the next tier which is Office 365 Enterprise E3.

It is best to talk to an Managed IT Service Provider like Quercus Solutions who knows all of Microsoft Office 365 subscription plans in detail and can review your business requirements to help you select the best solution for your company.
